"We recently engaged Supply Chain Alliance (SCA) to focus on a specific area of our business – wholesale catalog fulfillment (WCF). We asked SCA to facilitate a KAIZEN event to focus on improvements to the process at our distribution centre in South Carolina, and to train and teach our leadership team on how to run a KAIZEN event and utilize continuous improvement tools for our DC.
Prior to the KAIZEN event, our DC operation was experiencing seasonal peak volume through the facility, which challenged us in keeping up with meeting customer order fulfillment and the expected level of service speed. We needed to ensure the business had a successful peak season in 2019 and moving forward. Our DC needed to be able to fill customer demand daily and ensure we had the throughput capacity to meet current and future forecast demands.
SCA provided best practice leadership in running the event, along with layout, design, flow and process improvements through better ergonomics safety awareness, LEAN management applied principles, training and other fundamental elements missing from our operation.
SCA not only brought the top subject matter expertise in to run the event but also helped implement the changes and manage the project timelines through a trusted, professional and measured approach to the project. The event brought an expected labour savings for our company of over $600k and an expected productivity improvement of over 260% in certain areas of that operation. The WCF changes have resulted in a more productive environment, improved customer fulfillment and big lift in morale at our DC.
Upon completion of the project, SCA left behind a complete set of LEAN management tools for the team to use for future improvement projects along with a full understanding of what these tools could bring to the future success of our continuous improvement initiatives.
